What is the Difference Between Gel Battery And Conventional Lead-Acid Battery?

The difference between gel batteries and conventional lead-acid batteries is from the initial understanding of electrolyte gelation, has been further developed to the research of the electrochemical properties of the basic structure of the electrolyte,  also the applications and promotions in grids and active materials. The most important features of gel battery are: It is a kind of better quality battery compare with conventional battery but using a lower industrial cost, its discharge curve is flat and with high inflection point so that its energy can reach to a larger scale that more than 20% that of conventional lead-acid battery. Additionally, it has service life that generally twice longer than conventional lead-acid battery because of the better high temperature and low temperature resistance properties.

1. High Quality & Long-Term Service Life

The gel solid electrolyte can form a solid protective layer on the electrode plate to prevent the electrode plate from being corroded and to reduce the electrode plate bending or the electrode plate short circuit  phenomenon during the heavy load using process of battery. Also prevent the active material on the electrode plate from softening and falling off.

This kind of physical and chemical protection makes the service life of gel battery is 1.5 to 2 times longer than the national testing standard of traditional lead-acid battery. The gel electrolyte has a scientific specific gravity and is not easy to cause the vulcanization of the plate, which can be recycling over 550 times if use it in the normal load.

There is no acid mist gas precipitation, electrolyte overflow, no burning, no explosion, no corrosion and no pollution during use because of the solid electrolyte. It can still be used normally without liquid sulfuric acid flowing out even if the battery is accidentally broken during use.

The gel battery can be used normally in the temperature range within -40 ~ 65, which effectively solves the difficulties of traditional lead-acid batteries to start in the cold areas and other high-temperature areas, especially suitable for the cold weather in Northeast China.

However, it should be noted that the early exhaust gas from gel battery contain acid, and the gel particles are easy to stick to the battery surface. The oxygen cycle inhibits water loss but also generates heat, which increases the internal temperature of the battery and causes thermal runaway in the gel battery.
